Mobiles as Tickets
Mobiles are just the ticket for First Bus Customers
In April 2014 First Bus launched Mobile Ticketing (m-Ticket) pilot schemes in Aberdeen and Worcester, enabling customers to use their mobile phones as bus tickets. By the end of 2014 M-Tickets were available to all customers across its operating companies with a variety of products available.
M-ticketing was introduced to improve the overall customer experience. Customers now have the option of buying tickets through the First Bus M-Ticket app in advance of their journey, a very simple and easy process, and can now avoid thinking about the correct change, or remembering a bus pass or travel card.
For First Bus there is a further distinct advantage: M-Tickets help speed up boarding times. Removing the need for correct change is reducing dwell times and enabling First Bus to speed up journeys.
There has been significant growth since the introduction of the early pilots with a continued increase in the number of our customers using this as their preferred means of purchasing tickets. First Bus now has more than 50,000 individual customers purchasing tickets on a weekly basis across the UK via the m-Ticket app.
The next step for First Bus is to join up customer information and journey planning with the ticketing solution and provide the customer with access to everything they need to make their journey on one platform.
